Vision Mission Trip to Jamaica Needs a Volunteer Optometrist

Jamaica Outreach Program needs a volunteer Optometrist for a mission trip to Kingston Jamaica to deliver vision exams and eyeglasses. Travel dates are Wed. Nov. 1, 2017 and returning Sunday Nov. 5, 2017.

We have 1 other Optometrist on board, but need additional help. The eye clinic is fully equipped with two lanes and is located in the inner city on the grounds of St Pius X Catholic church. Three clinic days with two doctors will usually serve up to 300 patients in this poverty stricken community in Kingston. Additional volunteers handle patient registration, equipment repair, auto-refraction, frame selection and measurement.

The Jamaica Ministry of Health requires that we register volunteer doctors and we will work with you to complete the paperwork required. Because we deal with children and vulnerable adults, JOP requires a criminal background check. You fill out the confidential forms, and we take care of the rest (filing and application fees).

We stay at a convent/hostel outside of Kingston: Immaculate Conception Hostel in Constant Spring, Jamaica, where we have use of a kitchen to make our own breakfasts. Lunch is provided by St Pius X where we work in the eye clinic. Dinners are usually catered by the convent.

COSTS: Hostel room (double occupancy), meals, van transportation on the island, food/water/soda/snacks/tips total $225 per person. These charges exclude: airport transfers in USA, and airfare (you make and pay for your own flight reservations).

Let Jeanne know if you would like to participate, it will be an experience you’ll never forget.

If you have questions, just email .
Thank you so much for considering this service to our ministry to help the poor in Jamaica.
Jeanne Stamant, Secretary & Treasurer, Jamaica Outreach Program, and Nov. mission leader.
