News flash!  Since July 14, 2015, over 255 of our Fuchs’ Dystrophy Online Support Group Members, the UK Fuchs’ Friends Group and others have volunteered their genetic material for a current study on Fuchs’ Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy in progress at Shiley Eye Institute, University of California at San Diego.  They will be interviewed by staff at Shiley and a Saliva Kit will be sent to them to provide genetic material for the study.

This is an opportunity for people to participate in a
Fuchs' Corneal Endothelial Genetic Study
at The Shiley Eye Institute's Cornea Division in San Diego.

Principal Investigator: Natalie Afshari, MD, Professor and Chief of Cornea, Shiley Institute at UCSD

Basic qualifications for enrollment in this study:

  • You must have already been diagnosed with Fuchs' Endothelial Dystrophy, a disease of the cornea.
  • You must not have previously enrolled in this study.

You will be contacted within after applying to participate in the study.
     Please be patient.  Shiley never expected to see so many people register at one time.
