- Please Read this Important Notice:
At the Request of DR Sanjay Patel, Research Director & Associate Professor of
Ophthalmology, Cornea, Cataract & Refractive Surgery at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN
The following information is brought to your attention to clarify some inaccuracies he
discovered when viewing the webinar recording:
“A clarification of the Fuchs’ genetics study that was recently
published in the New England Journal of Medicine: the participants of the study were patients who were recruited at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, and at the University of Michigan, Ann
Arbor, MI, and not in Eugene, OR, as suggested in a previous communication. We are fortunate that so many people with Fuchs’ dystrophy volunteered their time and donated their
blood for research that will benefit all who have the disease.”
This was a misstatement made by The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation announcing the
availability of the webinar’s recording for viewing. We apologize to the patients and others who volunteered their time and blood during this study to help so many others.
A comment about DR Jay Krachmer passing away was also made during
the webinar that is incorrect. This was at the start of the section about disease severity.
We extend our apologies to DR Jay Krachmer, who is the current
Chair of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota, and he did describe the Fuchs’ grading scale that has become known as the “Krachmer Scale”.
Please address questions, corrections to our Webinar email address
