Friday evening:

We met the Speakers and other Dukie Eye Center staff, The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation Board of Directors, people who have had cornea transplants and others with corneal dystrophy at the Friday evening reception at the Millennium Hotel Durham’s Greenbriar Room on the second floor.  It was a gala affair complete with hors d'oeuvres, both hot & cold, a hosted bar, soft drinks, coffee, tea & iced tea.

Among those attending the Reception were David Epstein, MD, Chairman of Duke Eye Center; Natalie Afshari, Conference Chairperson & Associate Professor, Duke Eye Center; Alan Carlson, MD, Professor of Ophthalmology, Duke Eye Center; Monica & Robert Bellizzi, President and Executive Director of The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation, respectively; the Board of Directors of the Foundation and many of the Staff at Duke Eye Center.

Saturday

After a light continental breakfast and late registration, we moved to the AERI Auditorium and began the Saturday program taking a morning break and a long lunchtime with box lunches.

During the morning break and the long lunchtime we had an opportunity to join the
Duke Fuchs’ Corneal Dystrophy Genetic Study and many attendees did. The study is sponsored by the National Institute of Health.

Saturday evening we enjoyed an optional celebratory dinner in the Faculty Room at The Millennium Hotel Durham and again several members of Duke Eye Center’s staff, including Drs. Afshari and Carlson, attended. We had the opportunity to mingle with new patients, attendees from as far away as Alberta Canada and others of the online support group called Fuchs’ Friends.
